Vice President Leni Robredo thanked Vietnamese Ambassador Ly Quoc Tan after Vietnamese fishermen rescued 22 Filipino fishermen abandoned at sea last June 10.
Ambassador Ly made a courtesy call at Robredo’s office Wednesday.
“If you listen to the stories, they were really very thankful to the Vietnamese. They kept on repeating that were it not for them, they would have died already. Thank you on behalf of, not just on behalf of the fishermen, but on behalf of the people of the Philippines,” Robredo told Ambassador Ly.
A Chinese vessel rammed the fishing boat and abandoned the Filipino fishermen at sea. It was a Vietnamese boat who rescued them.
President Rodrigo Duterte also thanked the Ambassador during the ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
The President calls the ramming of the fishing boat a ‘little maritime incident’.
