No salary increase will be applicable for Metro Manila and Calabarzon minimum wage earners after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) rejects petitions for wage hike.
The board says it has no ‘supervening events’ to adjust the wage.
Granting successive pay hikes are prohibited unless there is a supervening condition or unusual increase in basic commodity prices.
Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) slams the decision saying that the dismissal for wage hike is purely due to technical reasons.
The group is asking the wage board a Php 750 and Php 768 increase for Metro Manila and Calabarzon regions respectively.
“The capacity of the Filipino worker to produce world-class talent and skills is wasted when the current and next generation of workers have to deal with pangs of hunger and the struggle to feed their family,” the TUCP said in a statement.
