Pinay domestic worker in HK laundered Php4 million for ‘online boyfriend’

A Filipina domestic worker in Hong Kong was found guilty for laundering money for her ‘online boyfriend’.

The laundered money reaches HKD 677,000 or more than Php4.4 million. Jeanette Rodriguez said the money is for her ‘online boyfriend’ she met on Facebook.

Rodriguez is a single mother with three children.

Chinese women were asked to deposit to Rodriguez’s bank account who all apparently were also courted by her online boyfriend.

Her dubious accounts lead to her arrest last year.

Rodriguez’s legal counsel said that her client met a man called ‘Mr. Brown’ who promised to marry her.

Rodriguez fell in love with the man’s chats and online gestures making her believe that they are actual lovers.

The judge handling Rodriguez’s case gave her leniency instead of 15 months each for the two cases, Rodriguez will only serve 8 months each in prison.
