Two pumping stations of the East-West pipeline in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia were attacked by drones controlled by terrorists on Tuesday morning, Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources, reported.
The pumping stations carry oil from the Eastern Province to Yanbu port, west of Saudi Arabia.
The terrorist attack was confirmed by Saudi’s official oil company, Saudi Aramco, in a statement saying that the attack caused a fire which was immediately controlled.
Saudi Aramco also said that they will temporarily shut down the pipeline: “As a precautionary measure, the company temporarily shut down the pipeline, and contained the fire which caused minor damage to pump station 8. Saudi Aramco confirms that no injuries or fatalities have been reported. Saudi Aramco’s oil and gas supplies have not been impacted as a result of this incident.”
Al-Falih confirmed to Saudi Press Agency that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns the attack. He also said that the Kingdom also believes that the terrorism and sabotage in addition recent acts in the Gulf do not only target the country but also the world oil supply and global economy.
“These attacks prove again that it is important for us to face terrorist entities, including the Houthi militias in Yemen that are backed by Iran,” he added.
The Saudi minister ended the statement saying that Saudi oil production has not been interrupted.
