The doctor is in the House of Representatives.
Dr. Ciriaco “Doc Jun” Gato Jr. of the Nationalist People’s Coalition has defeated former budget secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad of the Liberal Party in Batanes congressional race.
Gato defeated Abad by a very slim margin.
Based on the results from the transparency server of the Commission on Elections as of 6:44 p.m. Wednesday, Gato has 3,367 votes, Abad has 3,129 votes and Carlo Diasnes has 3,032 votes from 33 clustered precincts.
Another doctor, cardiologist Willie Ong, also ran for senator but he did not make it to the top 12. Ong said he is still glad as he did not expect he would receive more than 7.2 million votes.
