Jojo Binay cites close congressional fight in motion to delay proclamation

The camp of former vice president Jejomar Binay cited that there is a small margin of votes garnered in the First District congressional race in Makati City.

Binay, who is running against former Makati mayor Romulo “Kid” Valderama Peña Jr., said the total number of votes cast for the four candidates in the district is 38, 205 while the actual number of votes cast was 147, 164.

There is a discrepancy, which is only 8,959 votes.

Jejomar’s motion was denied by the City Board of Canvassers (BOC) Chairman Jayvee Villagracia.

Villagracia said there are only two conditions wherein the proclamation of a winning candidate is deferred or suspended. It is either there is a quesiton on the composition of the BOC composition or that the BOC conducted illegal proceedings.

Jejomar can file complaint before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

His camp has plans to file a pleading, but the venue is still to be determined.

Meanwhile, his daughter Abby Binay won a fresh mandate as she garnered 179,522 over her brother Junjun Binay, who garnered 98,653 votes.

Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo has been proclaimed winner as she garnered 182,655 over Monsour del Rosario who had 105,153 votes.

For Second District of Makati, the husband of Abby Binay – Luis Campos – garnered 90,736 votes over second-placer King Yabut with 63,345 votes.
