8 out of 10 millennials play online games – study

A new survey conducted by political consulting firm PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. showed 80 percent of millennials or those aged between 23 to 28, play online.

Of the 1, 200 millennials who joined the survey (as chosen by Singapore-based firm Lightspeed Research), some 81.6 percent said that they engaged in online games, while the remaining 18.4 percent said otherwise.

For those who answered in the affirmative, about 33 percent said that they play every day, while another 33 percent said that the play at least 2 to 6 times a week. The remainder said that they play only once a week.

The study also showed that some 55.8 percent of millennials consider themselves as competitive players.
PUBLiCUS Asia noted that the top reason for playing games is to reduce stress (37.1 percent), followed by interaction with friends (22.1 percent).

The study now solidifies the position of the gaming community worldwide. This was most evident in the sales of traditional PC, which slowed down in the past several years as users opted to shift to gamer-friendly options.

Earlier reports told that tech giants Microsoft and Google are planning to launch game streaming services to capitalize on the growing video game industry. In the United States alone, the video gaming industry generated a record $43.4 billion last year, up by 18 percent.
