It was a bitter lesson for a British woman who was arrested at the Dubai International Airport as it turned out that she has an outstanding warrant of arrest in Dubai after the Tunisian wife of her ex-husband filed a defamation suit against her in 2017.
She was about to attend the funeral of her former husband, a Portuguese, when she was arrested.
The Tunisian wife saw the ex-wife’s posts on Facebook, calling her a “horse” and calling their husband “idiot.”
The British woman posted bail and her defence lawyer requested the hearing to be adjourned as the two women have already reconciled.
But the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors denied the request and eventually found the British woman guilty of online defamation.
She was ordered to pay a fine of up to Dh3,000.
