A 17-month old girl died after she was run over by her neighbor’s reversing car on Monday.
According to the authorities, they received a call about the run-over incident which took place next to the victim’s family house in Mleiha area, reported Khaleej Times.
A team of officers from the traffic and patrol department immediately rushed to the scene of the accident, but the girl was already dead when they arrived.
The girl was rushed to a health center in the area and was later transferred to Al Dhaid hospital but she was eventually pronounced dead due to severe internal brain bleeding.
The driver of the car said that he did not notice the young girl behind his vehicle when he was driving on a reverse.
He also did not expect that a young girl of her age would be left outside of their house without adult supervision.
The driver was held by the central police for interrogation and will be referred to the traffic prosecution.
According to a relative of the victim, the young girl was playing outside their house, which was next to Mleiha health center, with her three-year-old sister when the incident happened.
The police urged residents living in the area to keep an eye on their children playing on the streets.
