POEA temporarily bars recruitment agency of Filipina raped in Jeddah

A recruitment agency based in the Philippines was temporarily barred from sending Filipinos to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) over cases of abuse.

According to reports, POEA has issued the order against the agency following a report forwarded by Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Jeddah Labor Attache Nasser Munder Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

Temporarily banned to process documents is Iemploy Manpower Services Inc. the recruitment agency that deployed the 22-year old Filipina who was raped by the agency’s representative. The same company also sent  four household workers who have been experiencing abuse in Jeddah, officials said.

The Filipino Times recently reported that the rape case of the 22-year-old victim has been settled with PHP750,000 or AED 53,000. The case of the household workers, on the other hand, are now being investigated. They are currently staying at the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC).
