Five aspiring overseas Filipina workers (OFWs) were rescued from an alleged illegal recruiter in Binondo, Manila.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested Chinese national Kai Kai Wang for illegally recruiting aspiring OFWs and promising them jobs in China, reported GMA News.
The Chinese national was arrested after undercover agents of NBI posed as jobseekers who wish to be employed overseas.
Wang offered Php40,000 as their monthly salary but failed to show any accreditation from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
It was revealed that Wang transports the workers to China via boats from Vietnam.
Wang’s assistant, named June Rose Taguba De Agtaran, was also arrested.
If proven guilty, Wang will face charges for illegal recruitment and human trafficking of Filipino workers.
Earlier this month, operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) have arrested a man who led a group of illegal recruiters in swindling victims with promises of employment as fruit pickers and farm workers in South Korea in exchange for placement fees ranging from PHP50,000 to PHP160,000 each.
