A Dubai expat in the UAE won $1,000,000 (Dh3,673,250; Php52,348,000) after being selected as the first 2019 winner of the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise raffle.
Casey Bly, an American residing in Dubai for eight years, won the raffle after his ticket number 1435 was picked.
According to Bly, he purchased the ticket at Dubai Duty Free on his way to Cape Town for a business trip. Bly works for FEDCO, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of innovative fluid machinery.
“As a frequent traveler, buying tickets to Dubai Duty Free promotions has been a regular habit for me and I never lose hope that one day I’m going to win. And finally it did happen – what great news for the beginning of the year,” Bly said.
Following the draw, the cheque for the previous winner was also presented.
Kasim Talib, holder of winning ticket number 1347 in Series 289, which was drawn during DDF’s 35th Anniversary, is the very first Iraqi national to win $1 million since the inception of the promotion in 1999.
Talim said that the prize helped him to pay for his sister’s cancer treatment.
