More than 1,000 forged passports have been confiscated by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs’ (GDFRA) in Dubai airports this year, thanks to the use of highly-efficient technologies.
According to Aqil Ahmed Al Najjar, consultant of the Document Examination Centre at GDRFA Dubai, a device which helps show the security and protection features of passports has managed to detect 1,043 forged passports, reported Khaleej Times.
Al Najjar said that GDFRA counter-checks the passports’ security features and the records of the identity of the passport holders through their database.
“The centre receives forged documents of multiple nationalities daily, but most of them are easy to detect,” Al Najjar said.
Al Najjar said that aside from passports, other documents such as residence cards and license cards are also being forged by some airport passengers.
“Those who came to the country through transit to travel to other countries without carrying a visit visa to their destination or by giving forged identity and residence cards were sent back to the country where they came from,” Al Najjar said.
