The winter season has officially started in the UAE on Friday, December 7, following the sighting of the Antares star which marks the beginning of the cold season.
According to Sharjah-based astronomer and meteorologist Ebrahim Al Jarwan, the winter season is expected to last until the middle of January 2019, reported Gulf News.
“The temperature in the Arabian Peninsula will fall to below zero degrees Celsius in the northern region and reach a minimum of 10 degrees in the southern regions. The severe cold will be especially felt in the northern areas, and at night time in particular. But by the middle of January, the cold season will start to decline,” said Al Jarwan.
Temperature is also beginning to drop in the UAE with the lowest temperature today, December 9, recorded at 9.8 degrees at Jais Mountain.
Other places in the UAE that experienced cold mornings include Damtha (10 degrees), Raknah (10.1 degrees), Mebreh Mountain (10.8 degrees), and Al Shuaibah (11.9 degrees).
General weather, meanwhile, will be fair to partly cloudy with moderate fresh winds. Relative humidity is expected to increase by night and early morning while sea will be moderate to rough in both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
