After transport regulators approved the Php2-fare hike for jeepneys on Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved Php1 provisional fare increase for buses.
“This authority to Provisionally Increase Fare Rates shall be effective Fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper of general and/or local circulation,” LTFRB said in its released order.
Ordinary buses in Metro Manila will charge a minimum fare of Php11 from Php10 while air-conditioned buses will increase from Php12 to Php13.
For provincial buses, the fare will stay at P9 but a P0.15 hike will apply for every succeeding kilometer.
Earlier, LTFRB approved a permanent Php10-fare in jeepney following the petitions filed by transport groups in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and in the Southern Tagalog due to higher prices of fuel, spare parts, and toll fees.
“While the Board recognizes the plight of the Filipino people every time an increase on the prices of the commodities occurs, it cannot be insensitive to the present clamor of stakeholders in public land transportation services for necessary action relative to fare rates,” the LTFRB said.
Buses’ last fare increase happened over seven years ago while LTFRB granted the P1 provisional fare increase for jeepneys in Metro Manila and nearby regions July this year, making the minimum fare for jeepneys P9.
