OFW in Abu Dhabi arranges deal with restaurant staff to help environment

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Abu Dhabi arranged a deal with a Filipino restaurant he usually eats at in the emirate to serve his meals in a more environment-friendly way.

Norman Laquian and his co-workers in a British veterinary centre in Abu Dhabi asked the staff of Royal Pinoy restaurant to serve their meals in plastic containers they bought to help reduce waste in the environment, reported The National.

Laquian said they were inspired to make their contribution to help the environment after seeing the bags of trash collected from streets near Manila Bay when the Philippine capital was hit by several storms last month.

The centre’s administrative partner, Jennifer Hale, proposed the idea of lessening their usage of plastic and thus the idea to buy their own reusable plastic containers with spaces for the main dish, soup, and rice.

Laquian then told the the staff of the restaurant where they usually eat to serve their food in reusable plastic containers. The restaurant staff agreed with Laquian’s request.

Laquian is hopeful that more people in Abu Dhabi would follow through and help lessen the waste thrown to the environment.
