Abu Dhabi Police issued a warning to jobseekers on the Internet who are at risk of falling victims to fraudulent recruitment scams.
Brigadier Saeed Mohammed Al Kaabi, Director of the Security Information Administration of the Command Ship Affairs Sector, said that scammers often disguise themselves as authorized recruitment agencies asking for money from job seekers in exchange of job opportunities.
Al Kaabi added that online recruitment scam is a new form of e-fraud with scammers using names of already popular recruitment agencies to encourage more people to transfer funds.
The scammers use personal information and accounts of job seekers inside the country, which they obtain through social media, fake recruitment websites and emails and target those outside the UAE.
The victims usually receive an e-mail or call from the scammers informing them that they have been accepted in a job with high salary and additional benefits.
The scammer will then ask for money to be transferred to their account for the processing of the necessary documents for employment and entry visa fee.
Al Kaabi also underscored the dedication of the Police to lessen and eventually eradicate cases of e-fraud, including online recruitment scams, in the country.
Filipino jobseeker falls victim to online recruitment scam
In May, a Filipino jobseeker was offered a monthly salary of Dh35,000 per month, exclusive of other privileges, to work as an administrative coordinator in a hospital in Dubai.
There is one problem, however. The hospital was non-existent as the offer was a mere scam.
The non-existent hospital offers jobs with big salaries and extra privileges including allowances and accommodations.
