Film and television director Joy Bernal is willing not to receive any monetary payment for directing the third State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an interview with CNN Philippines on Wednesday, Bernal said that there has been no contract for directing the third SONA, but said that there is nothing wrong with doing it for free since it is “for the Filipino people.”
“Para sa kapwa ko Pinoy, para sa mundo na gusto nilang malaman kung paano ba (sa Pilipinas)? Para sa maraming tao ‘to. Kailangan ko bang magpabayad doon? Hindi ako magpapabayad doon. Ibibigay ko ‘yon,” Bernal told CNN Philippines.
Before Bernal, award-winning director Brillante Mendoza directed the two previous SONAs.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s third SONA will happen on July 23.
