The lifeless body of a 24-year-old Filipina college student was found Monday morning, May 21, after she was reported missing in Dublin, Ireland.
The Filipina, who was identified as Jastine Valdez, reportedly left her home in Wicklow County before she was dragged by a 40-year-old man into a black Nissan Qashqai.
Her cellphone was found near the area where she was abducted.
Valdez’s family reported her missing on May 19 but her slain body was later found near a golf course in Pucks Castle.
“Authorities found the body of Valdez, an accountancy student, in South County Dublin on Monday following a massive search that began after her disappearance,” Philippine Ambassador to London Antonio Lagdameo said, citing reports from Honorary Consul Mark Congdon.
Irish authorities were able to track down suspect Mark Hennessy through his vehicle but he was shot dead after pulling out a knife.
Following Jastine’s death, the Filipino community organized a prayer service for the slain Filipina on Monday, May 21.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extended their condolences towards the family of the slain Filipina.
“We grieve with the loved ones of Jastine Valdez, someone so young and so full of promise, who was suddenly taken away from them,” Foreign Affairs Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement.
“We join the rest of the Filipino Community in Ireland in offering our prayers for Jastine and her family,” the DFA chief said.
