An expat is set to face criminal charges for allegedly setting fire in the parking lot of Dubai Outlet Mall which gutted 11 cars.
The crime he has committed will be treated as arson, a law professional told Khaleej Times.
If convicted, the Asian suspect may face 7 years of jail time.
Dubai Police apprehended the suspect on May 12.
In a footage uploaded by Ajman News on Instagram, a yellow Corvette and a white minibus can be seen engulfed in the fire before firefighters were able to put it out.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said the Asian suspect was ready to “leave the country” when authorities nabbed him.
Burns on his hands were found when he was arrested.
The suspect, a driver who transports staff of the shopping mall, allegedly had an argument with another driver. The suspect then set the victim’s car on fire which quickly spread to 10 vehicles nearby.
“The Dubai Police revealed that the fire started in a public transport bus and then quickly moved to the neighboring cars, causing the fire of 11 cars from the visitors to the mall,” Lt. Col. Adel Al-Joker, Director of the Criminal Investigation Departments said.
