Dubai Police arrest arsonist in mall fire

Dubai Police have apprehended the suspect in the fire that engulfed 11 vehicles outside a mall in Dubai, Saturday evening, May 12.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said the Asian suspect was ready to “leave the country” when authorities nabbed him.

Burns on his hands were found when he was arrested.

The suspect, a driver who transports staff of the shopping mall, allegedly had an argument with another driver. The suspect then set the victim’s car on fire which quickly spread to 10 vehicles nearby.

“The Dubai Police revealed that the fire started in a public transport bus and then quickly moved to the neighboring cars, causing the fire of 11 cars from the visitors to the mall,” Lt. Col. Adel Al-Joker, Director of the Criminal Investigation Departments said.

Authorities concluded the case was arson when they found out that there were no inflammable object in the area where the first vehicle was parked.
