Russian woman dies after being embalmed alive during surgery

A woman in Russia died after being accidentally embalmed during a medical procedure.

The woman, identified as Ekaterina Fedyaeva, was undergoing an unspecified medical surgery when the doctors put her on a formalin drip instead of saline drip, reported The Sun.

Formalin drip is infused into the veins of the dead to slow down decomposition.

Fadyaeva’s mother, Galina Baryshnikova, said her daughter had convulsions and experienced pain following the procedure.

The victim fell into coma two days after and was put on life support.

Baryshnikova and Fadyaeva’s husband rushed to the doctors to seek for their help, however, the doctors were “discussing how to tell us that a terrible mistake had been made” when they arrived.

“People who performed the surgery already knew that they infused something wrong. They needed to take some urgent measures – but they did nothing,” Baryshnikova said.

“I begged – ‘please help her, she is my only child’.”

The doctors allegedly told Baryshnikova that there had been a “medical mistake”, however, they did not admit to putting formalin drip in the victim’s system.

The victim was transferred to another hospital in Moscow where a doctor revealed to Baryshnikova that there was formalin in the victim’s body.

Fadyaeva later died of multiple organ failure.

The case is still under investigation.
