The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) formally launched the new Philippine coin series on Monday, but many netizens complained about its identical color and design.
The new series of coins, dubbed as the New Generation Coin series, will feature three National heroes and plants that are only found in the Philippines.
The 10-peso coin will feature Apolinario Mabini with the Kapa-kapa plant at the back.
Andres Bonifacio is featured on the 5-peso coin with the Tayabak plant at the back.
The Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal, is on the 1-peso coin with the Waling-waling plant at the back.
The 25-centavo, 5-centavo and 1-centavo coins show the Philippine flag’s three stars and a sun in front, and the Katmon flower, Kapal-kapal Baging plant, and Mangkono plant at the back, respectively.
The BSP said that they have used new materials and distinctive designs that will make it more difficult to counterfeit the coins.
However, many netizens were not pleased with the design with some saying that it would be hard to distinguish one coin from the other. Some even said that it would not be helpful for the visually impaired.
