UAE residents warned vs fraudsters using stolen cards to pay traffic violations

Abu Dhabi police on Thursday, January 4, 2018, alerted the public against fraudster who promise to pay traffic violations with stolen credit cards.

Recently, the police have arrested some Arab and Asian nationals involved in the illegally payment of traffic violations.

The scheme is that the fraudster intermediaries offer victims to pay for their traffic violations with a promise that the latter will have to a lesser amount. The cardholder will be left in debt of a huge amount of money.

“The legal responsibility applies to the intermediary. Anyone who allows, uses, or promotes such an act in good faith is unaware of its illegitimate consequences, as it does not absolve the client of responsibility,” said Brigadier General Tareq Khalfan al-Ghoul, director of the Directorate of Investigations and Criminal Investigations.

The director asked the public to cooperate with them to fend off electronic fraudsters.

He also advised to protect their credit cards and report any lost or stolen cards immediately so that the banks can block it automatically.
