As school officially starts in the UAE this September, motorists are urged to take extra caution around school areas to ensure the safety of students around the country.
Drivers are warned not to pass a school bus when it’s loading or unloading students in accordance with Resolution No (178) of 2017 on traffic rules and procedures, and resolution No (91).
Motorists who fail to halt their vehicles upon seeing the stop sign on school buses will be fined Dh1,000 and receive 10 black points.
In Dubai, school bus drivers are also instructed to follow the rules of traffic, driving speeds, and reducing speeds when exiting and entering school zones, to assure that school buses remain safe for students in the UAE.

“Every day of the school year, we always have officers pay attention to the areas around schools but at the beginning of the school year, particularly at the start and at the end of the school day, officers spend more time in the school areas, enforcing parking, speed and mobile phone use,” said Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police.
Abu Dhabi Police also urged motorists to leave a distance of more than five meters from school buses especially when stop arms on the sides of the buses are open, indicating that they are picking up or letting off students.
