The mother of 14-year-old Reynaldo “Kulot” de Guzman, the boy who was last seen with slain Carl Arnaiz, said she was informed that Arnaiz planned to rob a taxi with four other teens including her son.
In an interview with GMA’s Unang Hirit on Thursday, Lina Gabriel said that one of his son’s friends named MJ told her the morning of August 19 that Arnaiz was planning a robbery the night they went missing and that her son was the only one who agreed to go with him.
“May nakapagsabi sa akin, barkada ni Kulot, si MJ, sabi niya sa akin nung umaga na mang-hoholdup daw sila sa Taytay,” Lina said.
But according to her, Kulot never went through with the plan and only said he was going to get his clothes and slippers at the basketball court that night but never returned home.
“Kinabukasan, hindi rin naman nila nagawa. Hindi sumama si Kulot ng kinabukasan nung 18. Ang gumawa na lang yung Carl. Siya na lang ang nang-holdup sa taxi,” she added.
De Guzman’s body was recovered in a creek in Gapan, Nueva Ecija on Wednesday, September 6 with 31 stab wounds.
Lina described her son as “mabait at matulungin”, and insisted he was not involved in illegal drugs.
Kulot’s companion, Arnaiz, was killed during a police shootout after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver. Three sachets of suspected shabu and two sachets of marijuana leaves were found in his possession. Arnaiz also tested positive for gunpowder residue based on a paraffin test conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP). (Source: GMA News)
