After initially withdrawing from the hosting of the biennial multi-sport event in July to allocate the hosting budget to rehabilitate Marawi and other parts of Mindanao, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced that Philippines will once again host the 30th SEA Games in 2019.
“The president has approved the PH hosting for 2019,” DFA spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar said in a press interview on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano will serve as the chairman of the organizing committee for the hosting of the biennial event.
“Our athletes will have the chance not only to showcase their sports, their talent, but also the new Philippines which we expect in the next two years,” the Philippine Inquirer quoted Cayetano as saying.
The secretary made the announcement of the country’s hosting of the next SEA games with Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez and Philippine Olympics Committee (POC) President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco.
This will be the Philippines’ fourth time as hosts of the region’s multi-sport event.
