A taxi driver in Dubai has been instrumental in solving cases of theft, forgery and arson firing.
The taxi driver approached the authorities and told about a duo. He told the police that his passenger’s hand was bleeding.
“He said he fell on the street. I dropped him at the airport and after he got off the car, I noticed a credit card and other papers [that he left] in the car.”
The driver later learned that his passenger was one involved in setting a shop to fire, forging check signatures, and stealing Dh116,000.
According to police report, the suspect was a trusted friend of the shop owner, but later betrayed the victim by stealing items from the owner’s equipmental rental shop.
The victim asked the suspect to look after his shop and gave him key duplicates of the shop, as well as a pickup vehicle, during the time that he would be away for a business trip.
A Pakistani employee at the shop narrated that the “trusted friend” conspired with a supposed customer, who asked to rent two pieces of equipment worth Dh50,000.
“I told [the suspect] who was in the shop about the caller and so he picked up the phone and talked to him. He did not tell me for how long the equipment would be leased and instead he asked me to issue a bill under his name,” the employee said.
The employee immediately called the owner when the suspect failed to return the equipment. This prompted the shop owner to direct employees to change the establishment’s keys.
A month after the owner came back from his leave, a bag, which was placed inside his pickup car, also went missing. On the same day, a fire broke out at his shop.
The owner’s friend became the lone suspect because he was the only one who has key duplicates to the car.
The suspect allegedly worked with a 26-year-old Pakistani to burn the shop.
The duo, who claimed to have dispute with the victim, was able to encash Dh116,000 by forging the check signature of the shop owner.
The court will resume session on the case on August 17.
