DED shuts down restaurant for selling this substance

A restaurant in Umm Al Quwain was ordered to close after inspectors found banned naswar tobacco being sold in the establishment.

The restaurant at UAQ’s industrial area was caught selling small pieces of naswar for Dh3.

Saif Salem, Head of Inspection Section at the Department of Economic Development, said the authorities seized a big amount of naswar from the restaurant’s owner.

An inspection on the eatery was made after authorities received a tiff-off that the restaurant was selling naswar.

The sale of this substance is banned in the UAE as it may result in addiction among the youth, Salem said.

The DED said naswar and another narcotic called Paan can lead to a number of diseases and can damage the nervous system.
