Baguio unveils giant Pokemon figures for Christmas

By Lara Jane Mendoza:

Just when you thought you can’t love Baguio City even more, now it has a village that features giant Pokemon figures!

Whether you became a fan of Pokemon by playing Pokemon Go or watching the cartoons on TV, you would surely love to go to the Christmas Village at the Baguio Country Club (BCC) this year.

Every year, BCC’s Christmas Village gets different themes that the locals and tourists would enjoy. And this year, they are featuring giant Pokemons!

BCC general manager Anthony de Leon said that with the surge in Pokemon’s popularity, “we decided to make it our Christmas Village theme for the 1990s kids and the young people of the present generation”.

De Leon said preparations for the Pokemon-themed village began in September and a soft opening was held last October 29.

Materials used in fabricating and assembling the structures as well as the decorations were mostly made out of recyclable materials, he added.

The entrance fee for adults is PHP100 and for children 4-13 years old PHP50, while admission for senior citizens, PWDs and children 3 years old and below is free.

The Christmas Village will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily until January 8. The ‘snowfall’ show starts at 6 p.m. and is held every 30 minutes thereafter. Guests are advised to wear ‘snow’-proof clothes.

“What is Christmas in the Philippines if it is not spent in Baguio?” de Leon said.
