Public school teachers across the Philippines will receive their year-end and performance-based bonuses this month, the country’s Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones has said.
Next month, the teachers each stand to get P5,000 in productivity enhancement incentive (PEI), reported Manila Times.
The year-end bonus equivalent to one month’s salary, which is mandated by Republic Act 6686 and RA 8441, has been padded by Executive Order (EO) 201, the report said, adding that EO 201 sets an annual additional cash gift worth P5,000.
The performance-based bonus (PBB) was supposed to be released in October but was moved to November for thorough checking by an inter-agency task force through the Department of Budget and Management, the report said.
“The value of the PBB ranges from P5,000 to P35,000, depending on the teacher’s ranking, performance or contribution to the accomplishments of the department’s overall targets,” Briones reportedly said.
The PEI, according to the Education secretary, will be given for the first time in December in line with Section 6 of EO 201 not only to teachers but also all qualified government employees.
The non-government Teachers’ Dignity Coalition earlier appealed to the DepEd to release the PBB in October based on a department timeline.
The PBB is part of the productivity based-incentive system or PBIS under the Salary Standardization Law 3 enacted in 2009 but has only been implemented since 2012 under EO 80 signed by then-President Benigno Aquino III, said the news portal.
