Comelec postpones Barangay Polls in Bohol

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday voted for the postponement of the Barangay Elections in the entire Province of Bohol after it was affected by the Magnitude 7.2 killer earthquake last October 15.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes said that they will come up with a formal en banc resolution on Tuesday which will formally delayed the Barangay Polls in the said province.

“We are coming out with a resolution. We will postpone it therefore so there will be no issue anymore”, Brillantes said.

Brillantes said that a special election will be held in Bohol within a month but he noted that there’s no specific date yet since they are still assessing the situation in several affected areas in the province

“Ang target is within a month, ang special elections pareho ng Zamboanga”, the poll body chief explained.

Brillantes said that the campaign period for the barangay elections in Bohol is also affected by the postponement since there’s still no definite date on the rescheduled date of the polls.

“Wala nang kakampanya, yun ang mangyayari. We will also release the schedule of calendar of activities in the province which include the reschedule date of the elections and the campaign period which is a week before”, Brilantes said
