Marcos urges Filipinos to keep choosing country over division and self-interest

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to remain steadfast in their love for the country and to place national interest above personal and political agendas as the nation celebrated its 128th Independence Day.

Speaking during independence rites at Rizal Park, Marcos said the sacrifices of the country’s heroes should inspire Filipinos to confront present-day challenges with unity and purpose.

“Sa bawat Pilipino, ito ang aking panawagan: Huwag po tayong mapagod na mahalin, piliin, at ipaglaban ang Pilipinas,” the President said.

Marcos said the lessons of history should guide Filipinos in addressing issues such as corruption, poverty, political divisions, global uncertainties, and climate change.

He stressed that the country’s history demonstrated that freedom was achieved through unity and that genuine leadership requires sacrifice for the common good.

“The true leaders are those who sacrifice personal interests for the good of the nation,” Marcos said.

The President also expressed confidence in the resilience of Filipinos, citing the nation’s ability to overcome adversity and unite during times of crisis.

He urged the public to be discerning in seeking the truth, use their talents responsibly, compete fairly, and refrain from exploiting the hard work of others.

Marcos likewise called on Filipinos to prioritize the welfare of the nation over the interests of a select few.

The President concluded by reminding the public that Philippine freedom was won through the sacrifices of previous generations and must continue to be protected and nurtured by future generations.
