The International Criminal Court Registry has transmitted to the court’s Presidency the decision confirming the charges against former president Rodrigo Duterte, along with key case records.
In a four-page document dated April 24, the Registry submitted three annexes: an index of all filings in the case, including the confirmation decision; an index of hearing transcripts; and an index of evidentiary materials stored in the JEM-Nuix system.
Last week, the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I confirmed charges of crimes against humanity against Duterte and ordered him to stand trial.
Following the transmittal, the ICC Presidency will constitute a Trial Chamber composed of three judges who were not part of the Pre-Trial Chamber.
Once formed, the Trial Chamber will oversee the next phase of proceedings, including holding conferences with parties, setting the trial date, and establishing procedures. It will also rule on preliminary matters such as the timing and manner of evidence disclosure.
