Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has introduced a new permit allowing residents to install parking shades in designated residential parking spaces, responding to community feedback and rising summer temperatures.
The Permit to Install Parking Shades in Residential Neighbourhoods applies to properly reserved parking spaces in residential neighborhoods and is available through RTA’s website.
Applications are processed by approved contracting companies through a unified digital platform that allows applicants to secure approvals from all relevant authorities in one process.
“The approved requirements for installing parking shades in residential neighbourhoods stipulate that the shades must not affect the continuity of soft mobility or pedestrian movement, nor compromise road safety or the smooth flow of traffic,” said Arif Shakri, Director of Right-of-Way at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
Installations are also prohibited from blocking traffic signs or affecting underground utility lines and must follow RTA-approved design and color standards.
Shakri added the shades must be temporary and removable if required for infrastructure works, maintenance projects or emergency situations.
RTA said the permit system aims to streamline approvals while maintaining Dubai’s technical and urban design standards amid growing vehicle numbers in residential areas.
