The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station is set for a major expansion to meet rising passenger demand, particularly during holidays, major events, and peak tourist seasons.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, and His Excellency Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar Properties, on the sidelines of the Dubai World Project Management Forum.
The project will increase the station’s size from 6,700 square meters to 8,500 square meters and raise its passenger handling capacity from 7,250 per hour to 12,320 per hour, with daily capacity expected to reach 220,000 passengers.
Upgrades include new escalators and lifts, separating entry and exit gates, and adding more fare gates to ease crowding.
The station will also expand concourse and platform areas, improve pedestrian bridges and entrances, and integrate with buses, bicycles, and electric scooters. Landscaping work will be included as part of the project.
Officials said the expansion responds to sustained ridership growth at one of Dubai Metro’s busiest stations, located near Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Downtown Dubai. The station recorded nearly 11 million passengers in 2024, up from 6.13 million in 2013, with a daily average of 56,000 passengers.
