Philippine Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Mardomel Celo D. Melicor met with Dr. Karen Remo, CEO and Founder of New Perspective Media Group and The Filipino Times, to discuss deeper cooperation in empowering overseas Filipinos through integrated media, marketing communications, and events partnerships.
Also present were Secondary Secretary and Consul Monica Remsy Calañgian and Rain Dimalanta, Operations and Marketing Director of NPM Group.
The talks highlighted the upcoming Filipino Times Watchlist Awards & Forum, set for November 21, 2025, in Doha, which will honor the excellence, talent, and leadership of Filipino professionals in Qatar. With more than 260,000 Filipinos living and working in the country—largely in construction, service, and professional sectors—the event underscores the community’s vital role in Qatar’s development and its significant contribution of billions in remittances to the Philippine economy.
The meeting also explored initiatives to further empower overseas Filipinos, including financial literacy programs, professional development, and capacity-building efforts to enhance employability and competitiveness in both local and global job markets. Ambassador Melicor emphasized that strengthening skills is key to ensuring Filipinos continue to succeed worldwide.
Investment promotion was another area of collaboration. As the organizer of the Philippine Property & Investment Exhibition (PPIE), NPM Group continues to create long-term opportunities for Filipinos while building stronger economic bridges between the two countries. Both parties also underscored the importance of fostering unity, preserving cultural identity, and celebrating national pride within the Filipino community in Qatar.
At a broader level, the courtesy call reaffirmed the commitment of both the Philippines and Qatar to deepen cooperation in the areas of economy, labor, culture, and social services.
Dr. Remo reaffirmed NPM Group’s support for the Embassy’s mission by championing Filipino achievements and creating platforms that foster growth, cultural pride, and stronger bilateral relations. She expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Melicor for his support, noting that the collaboration between the Embassy and The Filipino Times/NPM Group “not only empowers overseas Filipinos but also shines a light on their indispensable role in driving economic and social progress—both in Qatar and in the Philippines.”
