Award-winning journalist Kara David drew laughter on her 52nd birthday after wishing for the death of corrupt officials in the Philippines, amid mounting controversies over alleged anomalies in flood-control projects.
In a video posted on her social media pages, David mimicked actor Alden Richards’ signature pose before making her wish. “Wish, sana mamatay lahat ng kurakot sa Pilipinas,” she quipped, before blowing out her birthday candles as companions burst into laughter.
Many netizens expressed agreement with David’s sentiments, saying they hoped her wish would come true.
David, daughter of sociologist Randy David and the late Civil Service Commission chair Karina David, is a longtime GMA journalist and documentarist. She also teaches journalism as an assistant professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Her comments echo the frustration of many Filipinos, including celebrities Dingdong Dantes, Carla Abellana, Edu Manzano, Anne Curtis, Bianca Gonzalez, Nadine Lustre, Jodi Sta. Maria, Sarah Geronimo, Matteo Guidicelli, and Karylle, who earlier spoke out against alleged corruption in flood-control projects.
