Tulfo seeks Senate probe into casinos over failure to flag dubious transactions

Senator Erwin Tulfo on Monday said he will file a resolution seeking an investigation into casinos for allegedly ignoring questionable transactions and failing to report these to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate committee on games and amusement, said the probe aims to curb corruption and money laundering involving government officials misusing public funds.

He cited officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan First District Engineering Office who allegedly gambled away hundreds of millions of pesos in state funds.

“They (casinos) cannot claim ignorance, suggesting that they did not know they are government officials or working in DPWH just because they used fake IDs,” Tulfo said in a statement.

He identified District Engineer Henry Alcantara, who used the alias “Joseph Villegas”; Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez, who went by “Marvin de Guzman”, and Project Engineer Jaypee Mendoza, who used the alias “Peejay Asuncion.”
