DOTr officials ordered to take public transport weekly

Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez has directed officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ride public transport at least once a week beginning Wednesday to better assess the needs of commuters.

“These officials of ours in the Road and Rail sectors are the ones who should always be out there because most of our projects are in these sectors,” Lopez said in a statement.
Covered by the directive are undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, directors, and general managers from the road, rail, Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), Philippine National Railways (PNR), and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).

The officials are required to submit weekly accomplishment reports detailing their observations, recommendations, and proposed actions, along with proof of compliance.

Lopez also encouraged other DOTr officials to commute alongside them to “see and experience first-hand the difficulties faced by commuters.”

The order, he said, is aimed at ensuring the effective enforcement of DOTr projects.
