The Department of Migrant of Workers confirmed that 27 Filipino seafarers are safe after their ship MV Transworld was reportedly attacked by the rebel group Houthi in the Red Sea.
In an interview with GMA News, DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said that the Houthis failed to immobilize MV Transworld Navigator.
“Hindi siya tinamaan in a sense na na-immobilize siya Nakapaglayag pa siya at nailigtas ‘yung 27 crew on board,” said Cacdac.
Cacdac said the Filipino seafarers will be repatriated back to the Philippines once they get to the port.
“Nakaranas sila ng pag-atake, baka kailangan munang umuwi sila sa kani-kanilang pamilya,” the DMW chief said.
The rebel group said over the weekend that they have attacked US aircraft carrier Eisenhower in the Red Sea and the Transworld Navigator ship in the Arabian Sea.
The incident happened just weeks after 21 Filipino seafarers of MV Tutor were rescued following an attack. One Filipino seafarer is still missing.
