President Bongbong Marcos urged the Department of Migrant Workers to strengthen labor diplomacy between the Philippines and other countries to protect the welfare of overseas Filipino workers or OFWs.
”First, strengthen protection of OFWs by making sure that government will be there during their hour of need,” said Marcos in a Labor Day event in Malacañang on Wednesday.
Marcos told DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac to use the budget of P2.8 billion Aksyon Fund of the agency to protect distressed OFWs and assure that their rights are protected.
”Second, let us strengthen our efforts on labor diplomacy at the bilateral and multilateral level, and realize our shared responsibility with host country to ensure safe and ethical recruitment processes and just and humane conditions for our OFWs,” Marcos added.
Marcos assured that his administration will work harder to protect the rights of Filipino workers.
The chief executive added that the government continues to find ways to improve the lives of the Filipino workers.
