No OFWs hurt after Taiwan quakes- DMW

The Department of Migrant Workers said that no overseas Filipino workers have been hurt in the recent earthquakes that hit Taiwan on Tuesday. 

Taiwan was on alert after magnitudes 6.0 and 6.3 earthquakes rocked Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 2:26 a.m. and 2:32 a.m.

“Initial reports from Filipino communities and leaders in Hualien County says MWO-Taipei indicate no overseas Filipino workers injured,” the DMW said in an advisory.

The Migrant Workers Office in Taipei is also coordinating with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office or MECO to check on the conditions of Filipinos through community leaders. 

MECO Chairman Silvestre Bello said around 1,400 Filipinos are located in affected areas.

“Hindi gaano kalakas [ang lindol]. Ang pinakalamakas ay  6.5 sa Hualien County… Sa ibang parte, ang maximum, magnitude 5.0,” Bello said in a GMA News interview.
