A heartwarming incident unfolded as a Dubai expat returned to India for her children’s summer holidays, making her mother’s unique request a top priority – tomatoes.
Packed within her suitcase were 10 kilograms of tomatoes, a commodity currently in high demand due to soaring prices in the country.
The expat’s sister, known as Revs on Twitter, shared this touching story, revealing that their mother had asked for tomatoes from Dubai.
My sister is coming to India from Dubai for her children’s summer holidays and she asked my mum if she wanted anything from Dubai and my mother said bring 10 kilos of tomatoes. 😑😑 And so now she has packed 10kg tomatoes in a suitcase and sent it.

With deep affection, the thoughtful daughter meticulously packed the tomatoes in kitchen storage containers and brought them back home.
Word of the gesture spread like wildfire on Twitter, with users lauding the expat as the “Best Daughter” during these times of inflation and skyrocketing tomato prices.
When asked how they will manage to consume all the tomatoes, which have an average shelf life of only 5 days, the Twitter user said, “As a family, we use a ridiculous amount of tomatoes, so we will make a pickle, a chutney, and bring some for me.”
Tomatoes in Dubai are priced at 5.00 -6.50 AED/kilo (Php75-95) depending on their quality.
In India, tomato prices have surged dramatically in recent weeks, reaching a staggering Rs 250 per kilogram (approximately Php166 or at least 11 AED) in certain regions.
This price hike has been attributed to delayed monsoons, high temperatures, and reduced production.
Just like Filipinos
This act of love by the Dubai-based expat resonates with a similar incident involving Filipinos who flew home from the UAE with kilos of onions when prices soared in their country.

During that time, regulatory agencies stepped in to tackle the price disparity, leading to the issuance of an importation order for onions.
