The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has issued an advisory regarding duplicate transactions that occurred from December 30th to December 31st, 2022.
The bank stated that they are currently working to resolve the issue and reverse the duplicate transactions, assuring customers that their accounts are safe and secure.
“Some ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from Dec. 30 to 31, 2022 were posted twice. We are already working to reverse the duplicate transactions. Rest assured that your account is safe and secure. Thank you,” the bank said in an advisory.
“Following the double posting of ATM, CAM deposits, POS and e-commerce debit transactions from Dec. 30 to 31, 2022, please be informed that we expect correction of the duplicate transactions within the day,” it added.
However, some users have reported difficulty accessing the app to check if they were affected by the glitch. BPI acknowledged the high volume of inquiries and said that users may experience intermittent access to the web and mobile app platforms.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is coordinating with BPI to address the issue, and BPI has identified the root cause of the error and committed to restoring mobile and internet banking services as soon as possible.
Some netizens have expressed frustration with the situation, with one saying, “Haay BPI. May sakit na nga kaming inaalagaan sa ospital at kailangan ka namin, dagdag pasakit ka pa”
Another commented, “Pahirapan pa maka access sa online para lang macheck yung account ko tapos makikita ko yung 2 account ko e mawawala?! Ayusin nyo BPI! Yung stress ko abot hanggang langit talaga.”
