The Philippines will enhance its vaccination program across several regions in the country through the “Bakunahang Bayan: PinasLakas Special Vaccination Days” at Trece Martires City, Cavite beginning on Monday, September 26.
The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in the Calabarzon Region will enhance the country’s COVID-19 booster coverage, in line with the pronouncements of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. DOH-Calabarzon chief Ariel Valencia affirms that the agency will continue to raise the numbers of Filipinos who take their booster shots against COVID-19.
“This is to help maintain the country’s wall of immunity by vaccinating 90 percent of the A2 or senior citizen population, as well as increase booster dose coverage to 50 percent of the total target population before October 8, which marks the President’s first 100 days in office,” said Valencia.
DOH Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Rosario Vergeire will officially kick off the five-day event alongside representatives of the Philippine Medical Association, Philippine Pediatric Society, Relief International, ReachHealth Project of the United States Agency for International Development, World Health Organization, and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, as well as DOH-Calabarzon officials, other governmental and local officials. Public markets and covered courts are two of the immunization locations.
To target the areas with low vaccination coverage, the DOH has sent out 47 social mobilizers across the region: seven in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal; 16 in Quezon; and three in Lucena.
“Remember, we are still fighting Covid-19, so we should not let our guard down and the only way to do that is to follow the minimum public health standards at all times and get your primary doses of Covid-19 vaccines and booster doses,” he added.
Currently, there are 422 permanent and 204 mobile vaccination sites out of 626 total active vaccination sites in the area (markets, malls, schools, workplaces, and passenger terminals).
