Super typhoon Hinnamnor and Tropical Depression Gardo may merge on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning but they are no longer expected to hit land, according to the latest update from PAGASA.
However, the merging could enlarge Hinnamnor’s diameter which can raise a tropical cyclone wind signal over extreme Northern Luzon and intensify southwest monsoon during the next few days.
Once the super typhoon enters the Philippine area of responsibility, it will be named ‘Henry’. “Hinnamnor” packs maximum sustained winds of 195 kph and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

“’Yung interaction po nila is posible pong mas lalaki ang radius o ‘yung diameter ng bagyong si Hinnamnor na magiging si bagyong si Henry. So mas lalakas din po ito at mas mag-eenhance po siya ng habagat,” PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren explained in a press briefing Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, as of 11am Wednesday update of PAGASA, ‘Gardo’ maintained its strength as it moved over the Philippine Sea toward northeast part of the Philippines.
The center of the eye of “Gardo” was spotted at 1,130 km. east of extreme northern Luzon. It was moving at 10 kph with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
The two weather events may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the archipelago.
