Fake ‘scholarship’ posts promising cash handouts to schoolchildren have been in circulation in Philippines.
The Facebook posts shared tens of thousands of times in the Philippines in August are promising cash handouts of 6,500 pesos ($116) under government’s scholarship program.
The message was shared on fake accounts for the Philippine social welfare agency and was also shared on “DSWD 4ps Update” on August 12.

The DSWD is the acronym for the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the post promised that the students will get a 6,500 pesos ($116) cash allowance, laptop, free cell phone and school supplies while mothers will receive 7,000 pesos ($125) monthly.
The post was shared more than 10,000 times before it was deleted.
