Dubai Police arrest expat for spreading fake news

An expat has been arrested by the Dubai Police for reportedly editing and posting a video promoting fake news. 
 
The said video allegedly brought fear and panic in his community. In a statement on Friday, authorities warned the public against spreading false information.

Promoting fake news is a serious offense that carries that can be penalized under article 198 of the Federal Law. 
 
Under the law, any person who intentionally disseminates false or malicious news, statements, rumours or disruptive propaganda that intends to compromise public security/interest and spread fear in society, shall be punished.

Police authorities also encouraged the public to report malicious reports and activities on the Dubai Police app.
