DA execs resign after palace rejects 300,000 MT sugar importation order, calls it ‘illegal’

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles has announced that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos rejected the 300,000 tons sugar importation order issued by the Sugar Regulatory Board last week. The palace also called the order ‘illegal’.

On a Facebook Live last Friday, Cruz-Angeles said Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian resigned from his post as undersecretary for operations and chief of staff to the Secretary of Agriculture.

Cruz-Angeles said Sebastian apologized to the Chief Executive for having signed Sugar Order No. 4 without the expressed approval of Marcos, who as DA secretary, is also the chairman of the Sugar Regulatory Board.

In a letter dated August 14, Atty. Roland Beltran resigned as a Sugar Regulatory Board member. 

He cited health reasons as his reason for resignation. 

Following the rejection of the importation order that was rejected by Pres. Marcos last week, Beltran assured in his letter that he will cooperation in the ongoing investigation on the Sugar Order No. 4.

He also explained that he can be considered as resigned after his tour of duty expired last July 1, 2022 and is only currently working under a ‘holdover capacity.’

Cruz-Angeles mentioned earlier that the the investigation will continue regardless of the resignation of the executives.
